The little square opening in the ochre wall looks onto a canal and gives you a glimpse of Bologna’s tucked-away history. It’s a charming photo stop, about a 5-10 minute walk from Porta Galliera/Pincio. Its popularity can mean long waits, though.

We got there around 10 in the morning and still had to wait for a photo. I’d go earlier if you can. The spot itself is lovely, and the other end of the canal is worth seeing too.

A lovely surprise tucked close to the main square and the sights, just a few minutes from the open market. Bologna’s pink and red colors make the place feel magical.

You’d never guess there’s a canal running through a pretty little city like Bologna. This small find on the road is lovely, and it’s well worth stopping to peek through the square.

We joined a queue of six to get a photo, but the idea of making a tourist stop from almost nothing deserves five stars. The little window is so sweet, like a handmade secret from childhood.
