B&B Hotel Calenzano First

The staff were friendly, especially Giovanni, who was great. Breakfast was tasty, but there wasn't enough food and they weren't replenishing it. The waiter said they didn't have time for us and told us to take only 1-2 pieces, even though there were only about 10 people there. The woman at breakfast was the only rude staff member. Sound carries terribly, too: we could hear people talking from 10 rooms away, and clearly hear our friends speaking normally in the room next door.

The bed was genuinely comfortable, and the room and bathroom were spacious. There was also plenty of free parking, and it only cost 50 EUR. But the hotel itself felt very old and worn, with a design from 30-40 years ago and a musty smell throughout. The ceiling AC above the door especially showed its age. Noise was a big problem. Construction drilling and hammering started at 8:30 AM, and showers could be heard loudly in nearby rooms. The building was extremely noisy, so it wasn't a good fit if you wanted to sleep in. I didn't have the AC or mosquito problems other people mentioned. I booked through the B&B hotels app and expected the usual B&B Hotel standard, which I trust: new-looking, spotless rooms. This place didn't feel like that. It also lacked the standard WiFi email sign-up and key cards or codes for the rooms. The photos used on Google, TripAdvisor, and the B&B app seemed fake, possibly Photoshopped. The building doesn't have a "B&B Hotels" logo, but a "First Hotel etc" logo, and it doesn't have the left-hand windows shown. You can see the real exterior on Google Street View, in the attached photo. It's a shame the app lists places like this as regular B&B hotels without explaining the difference. I'd trusted the app before without checking the hotel's reputation, so I guess I'll need to check from now on.

The location worked well for us because there was a Burger King nearby. I gave the staff 5 stars just for Giovanni, my brother. The rooms get 2 stars because you could hear everything from everywhere.

The location is exceptional, and the staff were extremely kind and helpful, easily the best part of my stay. The room itself was uncomfortable, though. It was so hot and humid that I couldn't sleep peacefully, and opening the window made the indoor temperature and humidity even worse. One of the towels was dirty as well. I saw that maintenance is underway, so hopefully things will improve.
