De Curtis Palace

A beautiful room.

We had a wonderful stay as a couple and left with such lovely feelings about both the people and the place. The rooms were quiet, so we slept peacefully. Alessandro welcomed us with a big smile and clearly takes great care of the property. He loves his work and does everything he can to make guests feel comfortable. The entrance and renovated interior were spotlessly clean, and everyone we encountered was courteous, friendly, and available to help. The location is strategic, about a 10-minute walk from the historic center, near the Duomo and the train station. Don’t be put off by the first impression of the building or its surroundings, the scenery changes along the road every 500 meters. Alessandro explained that not all residents agree with renovating the building’s atrium, which certainly gives the place character but not in a negative way. I’m sorry I didn’t meet his sister, who owns the hotel, to tell her it’s in excellent hands.

The friendly staff and good breakfast were the bright spots. Finding the B&B took a while because its name was only on the doorbell. There’s no elevator or parking, and the stairs need some work, with plaster peeling. Some rooms are nice, while others have low ceilings. Wi-Fi didn’t reach the top floor, and the TV had only three channels. The pillows were too low for me, and the constantly running water pump made it hard to sleep.

I paid 70 euros for one night and had to insist on getting a bill. The neighborhood wasn’t pleasant, and there were lots of stairs. Although the 14-room B&B has large rooms, the bathrooms had clogged drains, some lights wouldn’t turn on, and others wouldn’t turn off. There was no fridge or hairdryer. Breakfast came only in the room, with pastries, packaged cookies, and cheap juices.
