B&B e Residence Abbazia di Piona

From the balcony, we had wonderful views across the lake, and the breakfast room looked south toward Bellagio in the distance. This is a charming, friendly, clean BnB, with big rooms and high ceilings. Having parking close by was a nice bonus. Next time we're in Como, we'd stay here and take day trips to the beautiful towns nearby.

The lake view from our room was outstanding, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The location is nice, and the price offers very good value, though the room itself was small. Breakfast had plenty of choices, but the food wasn't freshly made. We had two restless nights because of the noise. On the first, a local holiday party with a disco went on right under our balcony until 00:30, followed by hours of shouting from drunk people. The property could have warned us, since we would have cancelled; getting restful sleep matters to us. The second evening was noisy too, with locals gathering around the hotel. The place is cheap, but the outside noise was a real problem for us.

The town is small, with lovely architecture and great views, and Andrea made the stay feel warm and welcoming. He owns and runs the place and is incredibly kind and caring. The room was more than adequate, with an awesome view, and the prices were the best in the area and definitely worth it. Breakfast was better than a cafe meal. Everything was 100% fresh, with a good selection of cakes, croissants, juices, coffee, tea, cheese, eggs, bread, salami, and more. One thing to plan for is transport. Check with Andrea about public transit during your travel season, or rent a car, which is highly recommended for Lake Como in general. We came in December, when there were very few buses in town. We had to walk a lot to Dorio, then take the train to other towns. That could be difficult for older people who can't walk much. Still, we had a super great experience and will definitely visit again.

The host and the other staff were all very service-minded. Our room felt airy, and the Italian-style breakfast came with a range of cakes and pastries. They made fresh coffee and brought it to our table. It's set in a quiet, beautiful area, and the lake view was incredible. Can recommend!
