Hotel Aigle

Tiramisu and freshly squeezed OJ were to die for. The room was a good size, with immaculate housekeeping, plenty of hangers and drying space, and it wasn’t too hot. We had a relaxing week of snowboarding and skiing at this lovely family-run hotel in Entrève, about 3km from central Courmayeur. The staff gave us a warm welcome. Breakfast was limited but delicious, based on the traditional Italian coffee and pastry start to the day. The daily four-course dinner was tasty and filling, although 8 p.m. felt a bit late to start. Getting to and from the cable cars meant taking the free shuttle or bus, which was a bit of a pain, but manageable if you got the timing right.

The view from our first-floor room was a highlight, with a panoramic corner window looking toward MonteBianco, the Dent du Geant and Les Grands Jorasses. It may be the best hotel view of those mountains in Italy. Our room was comfortable and clean, and the bathroom had been recently modernised. We enjoyed the evening meals, prepared by an excellent chef, which introduced us to Valdostana dishes and wines. The receptionist was consistently charming, welcoming and helpful, and gave a useful answer to every question. They also let us keep the room longer so we could shower before a late departure. Thanks to the owner and staff for their kindness and skill in making our stay relaxing.

The hotel gives you a prime location, abundant excellent food, parking and helpful advice for very good prices, especially in Courmayeur, where everything seems ridiculously expensive. A spritz with olives in the square costs 12€! There’s an incredible mountain view, and you can walk to both the slopes and the Skyway. The staff were helpful, nice and competent.

We’ve stayed here as a family many times, but this was our first visit as a couple and our first since the restructuring was completed, so it felt new in a lot of ways. It was good to see Alessandro again. Even after the major investment, the hotel has kept its values of quality and value for money. I don’t think there’s a better hotel in the area.
