B&B La Cittadella

The room was really cold, and we couldn’t use the heat from the AC. It wasn’t clean either. I think the owner was the person whose number was listed on Booking. I called because I was at the wrong door and couldn’t find the hotel, and even though I asked politely, he shouted at me and hung up before we’d finished talking. Very rude and not helpful or friendly at all. An extremely bad experience.

This disrespectful hotel wouldn’t let me check in and kept my money. We’d been communicating with the hotel on WhatsApp. I asked for a free cancellation because they wouldn’t allow late check-in, and it had been only about 30 minutes since I booked. The person replying said they weren’t the owner and offered no help. I said their behavior was disrespectful and suggested we meet in the morning to discuss it. They then said they’d report me to the police and refused to let me into the hotel. Note: after I left a comment, they replied with a bunch of lies. I’m sharing photos so you can judge for yourself. There were very few towels, and the room wasn’t clean. The owner was unfriendly and spoke to customers in an unqualified, uneducated way. I’d never return and highly recommend you don’t stay here.

The room was spacious and seemed clean, and the shutters made it dark enough for a good night’s sleep. We checked in easily after arriving at la citadella on Friday, following a week in the countryside. Even though we’d told them we were coming, the room wasn’t ready, so we left our luggage and went to explore. We came back that afternoon. I messaged the owner through the booking app about someone else’s dirty socks under the bed. The next morning, owner Fabrizio was embarrassed and wanted to sort it out right away. We showed him small bites on our bodies and asked for fresh sheets because we were concerned about hygiene. Fabrizio was kind, understanding, and helpful. At breakfast, though, the other co-owner interrupted our cappuccino and started questioning us. She pulled us toward our room, yelling as if we were being accused of murder, while our coffees went cold. New guests were waiting nearby to check in, and she didn’t seem to care. The whole conversation felt ridiculous and hysterical. We found dirty socks, asked for clean sheets, then had to explain ourselves to her. She finished by saying, “THIS IS NOT A FIVE STAR HOTEL.” For 130 euros a night, I expect a clean room and proper hotel staff. Fabrizio, thanks for trying to fix things, but the other owner’s behavior ruined our day. Without that strange interaction, we’d have given 3 out of 5 stars. The noise was a big problem too. You could hear every move in the B&B, doors slammed loudly, and staff talking at reception right beside the room. It was impossible to sleep without earplugs, so maybe offer them to guests by default. It’s a 10 minute walk from the train station. The breakfast was basic but fine, and there was a mini fridge and coffee amenities. The room was very dark, and the mattress was very hard. We also had hygiene concerns.
