Don't go if you don't speak Italian. The owner is a rude, grumpy older Italian man with no manners and no knowledge of any language other than Italian. He seems to hate his life and will make yours as miserable as he can. No customer service skills, no AC, no breakfast, and very expensive. Just don't go.

Girasole house was humble, clean, and adequate for an inexpensive short stay in Florence. Its biggest pluses are the cleanliness, a kind gentleman at reception who speaks quite acceptable English, and being close to a train station. From there, it's a five-minute ride to the center of Florence. Breakfast could be much better, though for a low-cost hotel in Italy, it wasn't surprisingly bad.

The rooms are basic but work fine for a few nights. There's no night concierge, which means there's nobody there if something happens. Unfortunately, we had a nightmare night: guests fought for hours in the middle of the night, left blood on the floor, and the police were called. It wasn't the owner's fault, but we were the ones who didn't sleep a wink. I'd strongly recommend looking for a place with a night concierge, especially if you're traveling with infants like we were.

The hotel is in a very convenient spot near the station, making it easy to get around. Reception was attentive and kind from the moment we arrived. At checkout, they asked how our stay had been and whether anything could be improved, which showed real concern for guests' well-being. Our room was clean and tidy, and the bathroom had soft towels and toiletries. There are also shops and good restaurants just a few steps away. I really enjoyed the stay and definitely recommend it.
