Florence Stadium B&B

The room is usable for sleeping and was relatively clean in the areas you could see. It seemed like the cleaning stopped at the visible parts, with the rest left in the hope guests wouldn’t notice. There are a lot of problems, though. The fridge was so frozen that its cooling system didn’t work properly, and the air conditioning also struggled, leaving the room warm and humid most of the time. There were no windows, so after going out and coming back, the room felt damp and musty in the summer. The toilet was completely broken, meaning we had no toilet seat for our stay. There were no dishes, utensils, or washing-up soap. A safe was provided, but it was so small that a burglar could probably just carry it off and figure out how to open it later. The room is next to a workers’ yard, and the workers can enter the open area. My wife and I were shocked to return one day and find the gate beside our room open. Someone also came in to change the bins and floor mats without telling us, while some of our valuables were lying around. A note said this would happen only once every three days, but that wasn’t what happened. The only real service was a WhatsApp message asking for tourist tax payment. After that, there was no contact. The communication felt cold and unfriendly, like they weren’t interested in hosting people. If you’re desperate or really on a budget, you could stay here, but otherwise, go with another option.

The small terrace in front of the rooms was quite nice, with plants and some shade. We stayed for two nights in March this year, and you have to check in and out yourself because there’s literally nobody there. This is part of Campo di Marte station converted into rooms, not a B&B or anything close to a hotel. There are no windows at all, and I found dust almost everywhere. One of the towels was stained, the bathroom mirror still had hand marks on it, there was mold in the bathroom, and the fridge was dirty. I don’t recommend this place unless you literally have no other options.

The power kept cutting out when we arrived, about a dozen times while we tried to charge our phones. We unplugged the TV and air conditioning, but it still happened. The owner didn’t reply or apologize. There was old food left in the fridge by previous guests, and mosquitoes all over the room. The cleaning lady was rude the next morning and told us to unplug the fridge if we wanted to use the kettle. She barely apologized about the half-eaten food, though she did offer towels, so I suspect the owner is the stingy, rude one. She may well be overworked, and this probably isn’t her fault. Check-out was at 10, with no apology, and they wouldn’t even store our bags. By the time the cleaner came to knock on our door yet again, we’d had to book an early cab to reach our bus stop. First-world prices for third-world conditions. Awful, don’t book. Worst booking I’ve ever made.

The only decent thing was being about a 20-minute walk from the center. The room was stuffy, with mold in the bathroom and a strong mold smell as soon as we walked in. We couldn’t breathe properly through the humid, smelly night. When we asked to leave our bags after checkout, they said they couldn’t take them and suggested we leave them in the garden. This isn’t really a B&B, let alone anything like a hotel. We weren’t satisfied at all, and I don’t recommend it.
