Hotel Marine

The breakfast woman was fantastic, always accommodating and smiling, and the maid kindly let me pack late on my last day. Those were the only two people who were helpful and deserved a compliment. The rest of the experience was a letdown. Finding the hotel was extremely difficult, even though it was supposed to be less than a five minute walk from my previous one and I used Google Maps. Staff said the map was wrong. I asked reception and the booking service to add clear directions to Google and Booking.com, because it was so confusing. On the first day I asked whether I could stay just one night and give up the next two, even though I'd pay in full. Reception refused, citing the booking arrangement, so there was no refund. I stayed the second and third nights at a friend's hotel near the Duomo instead. That place was much better located, and I wouldn't have minded paying a little more. After wasting two nights here, I didn't want to return. This was the worst hotel choice of my whole trip in Italy, after weeks of travel. The property should be one star, and the money was badly spent. A hostel just a few steps away looked more welcoming, cost much less, and offered a chance to share a room with new friends.
