Sweet Home Desiree

The paint smell was strong as soon as the host opened room 4, and then I spotted visible mold. We were told it couldn't smell like paint because it had been painted in April. We reported the mold, but the host said they hadn't known it was there. It was a small square room, and the mold was obvious at a glance, so I don't see how it could have been missed during cleaning before guests arrived. They first offered to deal with it while we were out, mentioning anti-mold paint and then special cleaning products. Since the room already smelled of paint, sleeping there after fresh paint or chemical treatment felt like a serious health concern. They said the products weren't toxic, which didn't reassure us given the danger of breathing them in. We asked for our money back and were initially told there was no chance. I'm very allergic to mold, so I asked who would take responsibility if I ended up in hospital. Only then did they agree to speak with the boss, and eventually gave us a full refund. That's the only reason I rated the service two stars instead of one.
