Gasthof Mittermühl

A dreary place, with very unpleasant staff. They charge 11 euro for a 1L bottle of coke. Keep driving.

It's a simple, pleasant place, set apart from the village. The view is wonderful, and when the weather cooperates, you can admire a splendid starry sky.

We left right away. The whole house smelled strongly of stale smoke, more like a nursing home than a guesthouse where you’d expect to feel comfortable. The place was run-down, and our room was dark and sparsely furnished. The smell in the room was just as unpleasant as everywhere else. There was an unappealing freezer in the hallway, and cleaning supplies were left out in the open outside the room. The oversized crucifix made the place feel like a funeral home. A stay there would have been neither relaxing nor a holiday for us.

The rooms are a little dated, but spotlessly clean, with very good mattresses, and the guesthouse has a warm, family-run feel. It was a good place to rest after a hike. Breakfast had plenty to choose from, and the coffee was excellent. The hot meals were fairly priced and great value, with good traditional cooking and special requests accommodated. There’s a small outdoor seating area, unfortunately right beside the road, and the place is a great starting point for hikes. The landlady gave us hiking maps, activity brochures and the Dolomite Ticket for discounts and free public transport. The bus stop is right outside. We had a wonderfully relaxing stay and will definitely be back.
