A Casa di Irene

A heads-up if you have little kids: there are steps outside the entrance and inside the house. The place is in a ZTL area, so parking nearby is only possible from midnight until 10 AM. There’s street parking about five minutes away for 1€/h. The house itself is spacious and very clean, with comfortable beds and a nice outdoor spot for breakfast or relaxing in the evening. It’s carved into the Matera mountain like a sassou, which gives it a feeling of the distant past, but it’s still practical and comfortable. Even at the hottest part of the day, it stayed cool without needing AC.

We stayed at the end of May, and the atmosphere was magical. The stone building made for a fantastic experience, and everything was clean and well cared for. Mrs. Chiara took such good care of us. Breakfast had plenty to choose from, including a lovely fruit basket, and there was everything we needed. Thank you, Chiara, for making the vacation unforgettable!

We were welcomed so warmly by the owner, and the stay was very pleasant. The breakfast was superb, with fresh croissants, focaccia, fruit, milk and everything else we needed. "Irene's house" was a lovely surprise after seeing the beauty of the Sassi in Matera. It had all the comforts while keeping the original feel of the Sasso, and the little windows meant there was no humidity.

There’s a table and chairs outside, and inside the house is spacious and immaculately clean. It’s right in central Matera, carved from stone and furnished in an elegant but practical way. Highly recommended!
