The breakfast was a lovely Italian spread, with homemade focaccia, pastries, fried eggs, jams, and yogurt. The staff made coffee when we asked. Rain kept us from eating outside, but breakfast in the cave still had a nice atmosphere. Our room was a real gem, an authentic cave suite, and the bed was one of the most comfortable we've slept in. The bathroom felt romantic and atmospheric with its lighting, and everything was ready for us, including slippers and toiletries. There's no private balcony, though you can see the main sights from the doorway. The man at reception was especially kind and helpful. We'd gladly return and recommend it.

Matera is amazing, and after doing a lot of research we picked Fra I Sassi. So glad we did, it quickly became one of my favorite places. The breakfast was 10/10 🫠. Our boy celebrated his birthday there, and the kind receptionist even brought him balloons.

Watching the sun go down over Sassi di Matera from the terrace, drink in hand, was lovely. We were amazed by the service, location, breakfast, and cleanliness. Thank you so much! A must-stay, and we'll stay here again if we come back to Matera.

The location is fantastic, and so is the terrace view. Breakfast was great, and I really appreciate the eco-friendly steps they take to reduce their footprint. We stayed in a wonderful private suite, spacious and cool even in Matera's extreme heat, with a huge bath and shower, separate toilet, TV, coffee station, and air conditioning, which we didn't need. The staff were friendly, professional, and fast to respond, and the service was the best we'd had in three months in Italy. They helped with dinner suggestions and reservations, tours, parking, and any questions. We also got a free map with suggested routes and cold water on arrival. I mentioned my husband's birthday, and they went out of their way to make the stay special. I asked for Prosecco in the room and they happily provided a fantastic local bottle. One thing to keep in mind: it's a bit of a walk to the accommodation if you haven't arranged a shuttle from parking, and the roads are quite slippery, so pack light. We'll definitely be back in Matera.
