Ricco was super friendly and attentive, and I'd recommend the hostel for a short stay. Its location in Matera's historic center makes it quick to get around, though big discount grocery stores are the exception. In the shared area there are comfortable chairs and a sofa, the wifi works well, there's a little kitchen nook for basic cooking, and three bathrooms with showers are available. The hostel is basically one huge room, split up with curtains. Since there are no walls between the spaces, there's no sound isolation at all, and the beds are very close together, which could be uncomfortable in peak season. I also found the centrally controlled lights being switched off from 20.30 until 09.15 the next morning uncomfortable.

We couldn't stay because of our dog, but Andrea was really helpful and gave us valuable information.

Bedbugs in the mattress seams and behind the headboard made this one of the worst stays I've had. By the first night, I had itchy bites on my arms and legs. Totally unacceptable!

Don't stay at this hostel. The toilets are really dirty, and there are so many bedbugs. After just one night, my body was covered in rashes. Only come here if you want to experience bedbug rashes.

Really good value for money, with a fantastic location and great staff. The dorm stayed quiet, clean, and chilly even though it was 30°C outside. No bedbugs, that problem's gone.
