Rizzi Residence

Set in the centre of Sasso Barisano, this is a clean, tidy, modernised apartment in a really picturesque spot. It’s about a 5 minute walk to the main town, with some lovely restaurants nearby. The owners are close by and very helpful.

The terrace has an amazing view over Matera, and there are great restaurants nearby. The apartment was clean and tidy, and the host was friendly. It’s a great spot right in Matera, about a 30 minute walk from the bus station.

The Rizzi family made us feel at home for our week in Matera. They were welcoming from our first email, helped us get to the apartment, arranged a taxi back to the airport, and were available whenever we had a question. We stayed in the Sole apartment at Rizzi Residence for a week in August 2018, and it was a great place with a warm, welcoming family as hosts. The apartment is spacious, clean, and homely, with a modern kitchenette and bathroom, fast Wi-Fi, a double bed, two single beds, and good air-conditioning on both floors. We cooked lunch each day and ate outside on the small private balcony overlooking Via Fiorentina. There’s also a shared roof terrace with the adjoining Rizzi residence rooms, where we often enjoyed a glass of wine in the evening while looking out at the Sasso Barisano. The apartment is in the heart of the Sasso Barisano, with the Rizzi family’s shop across the street and a small museum below. Breakfast is served across the street in a beautiful cave restaurant. Via Fiorentina is lively and pleasant, but the apartment is soundproofed, so we slept quietly without disturbance. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend this apartment to anyone.

This was easily the best place we stayed in southern Italy. It’s a lovely family-run spot. Give yourself a couple of days here!
