The gated parking at Villa Eletti is a real plus, and it makes a handy base for exploring Matera, which is a very interesting city.

Once you've parked, the old city is only an 8-10-minute walk away. The place is clean, well organized, and has everything you need, and our young host knew a lot. Wear comfortable sneakers, see the city from above first and then head down. Pick up a free map at the tourism information office and follow its suggested route. Don't miss seeing the city at night. Enjoy the trip.
