My son and I stayed at the Ruben’s Hotel for three nights while we were in Milan for the Inter game on Sunday. The reception team were professional and courteous, the room was nicely furnished, and the bed was really comfortable. It was cleaned immaculately each day. We needed help from housekeeping once, and they were kind and friendly. One receptionist deserves special thanks for checking on us several times while we waited for a taxi to the airport and chasing the taxi company for us. That care meant a lot. What I loved most was coming back to this neighborhood after visiting the city. The nearby subway made it easy to see Milan's central sights and shops, but this area felt like home, with real heart and soul. We had a perfectly made cappuccino from a true artisan at Il Cafetero Speciality, watched friendly staff make our lunch at Pizzium - Via Rembrandt, and took an afternoon walk with gelato from Gelateria Rembrandt, served by the kindest people. We also had a warm welcome and delicious dinner at O Surdato ’Nnamurato. There were bakeries, cafés and restaurants all around, then we'd head back to the Hotel Rubens for a restful night's sleep. I've completely fallen in love with this area and its people. You could stay in the center and wake up to the Duomo among tens of thousands of tourists, or spend time in polished hotels and restaurants that can feel cold and empty despite the crowds. For me, staying here and taking the subway in made Milan feel more real.
