Crowne Plaza Milan City by IHG

We found Milan easy to get around from this hotel, which is right above Sondrio station and one stop from Milano Centrale. The covered walkway to the metro was especially handy when it rained. Shops, supermarkets and the Duomo are nearby as well. We stayed at Crowne Plaza Milano City for five days. Our room was comfortable and roomy, we slept well, and the air conditioning kept it cool just as it should.

After our flight into Milan, I stayed here for one night to start our trip. The staff were extremely accommodating, letting us check in early and check out late at no extra charge. Trains went on strike the next morning, but they quickly helped us arrange a taxi. A very nice hotel.

The only downside for us was the street noise coming through what seemed to be new windows. Apart from that, we felt very well looked after. As American tourists, travel can feel uncomfortable these days given the state of the world, but that wasn’t the case here. Every member of staff, from reception and breakfast to the lounge, housekeeping and the housemen, was kind, patient and understanding. The service was above average and came naturally. The whole property was spotless. The hotel is very convenient for Milan and Northern Italy, with a Metro stop right at the door and Milano Centrale just a 7 minute walk away, so there’s no need to drive or hire a taxi. Thanks for making us feel welcome and at home in Milano. ❤️

The bed was our main issue. The mattress felt very soft and as though it might need replacing after years of use. We could also hear laughter through the thin walls from nearby rooms, and one morning heard a phone alarm vibrating next door. The rooms were on the small side, though clean and well kept, and housekeeping did a good job every day. Service was excellent throughout. At check in, the friendly, enthusiastic staff member remembered our request to have both rooms on the same floor and close together. Everyone else we met was friendly too. We had drinks at the lobby restaurant after 9 pm, where Federico was especially welcoming, comfortable to talk with and attentive all evening. The location is fantastic, with Sondrio metro station directly below and Milano Centrale a 10 minute walk away. There are lots of places to eat nearby, including San Giorgio Ristorante-Pizzeria dal 1999, just a 5 minute walk away. We had a pleasant stay, and better mattresses and sound insulation would improve it.
