The uncomfortable mattresses, with springs bulging out, made it almost impossible to sleep well. Rooms also had a musty, almost barn-like odor, and the furniture throughout was extremely old and in desperate need of replacement. The gardens could have been beautiful, but they were overgrown and poorly maintained. The whole place felt run-down and neglected. Staff were either unavailable or uninterested in helping, so the experience felt far from luxurious. I would have rated the hotel higher if it had been honest about what it is. It advertises itself as a 5-star property, but at best it feels like a budget 3-star. If you expect true luxury, you'll be disappointed.

The garden is beautiful, but the guest room comfort and customer service, which should be the foundation of a five star hotel, were terrible. The people here had no interest in helping us. The most unacceptable part was the food menu: the website and both the regular and English menus showed a full selection of Italian dishes. As soon as they knew we were Chinese travelers, they gave us a Chinese menu with only 5 items. I couldn't believe Italians would discriminate like that in 2025, as if we were all idiots. If you support this kind of behavior, feel free to stay here and spend all your money.

The hotel restaurant served a good dinner, and parking was plentiful. The pool is a good size for swimming and has a very deep section. It can get quite crowded, apparently because people who aren't staying at the hotel can use it too. Breakfast still had a good selection, though it was more limited than when I stayed a few years ago. I’ve noticed the same smaller breakfast selection at every hotel I’ve revisited. The villa itself is large and beautiful, with a big park. The Classic room was an okay size, though a little worn, and I liked its terrace. Its bathroom was extremely small, with the toilet positioned awkwardly enough that someone taller than average would struggle to fit. I’ve also stayed in the Junior Suite, which is significantly larger. In the morning, the pool was closed because a tree was being felled in the garden. We hadn't been told in advance, and it ruined our plans. We had to choose between an early excursion and staying at the hotel to use the pool, so we chose the pool and ended up missing both the excursion and the swim.
