Antico Borgo Toscano

This seemed like a nice area, with walks and views nearby, but the B&B felt grotty and wasn't worth even the low price, despite being close to Florence. It could have been nice, but the owner seemed to have given up and stopped caring. I stayed one night after searching at short notice for somewhere cheap. In more than three weeks touring Italy, this was easily the worst place I stayed. The entrance from the car park meant climbing scaffolding steps, then walking over loose tiles and power cables. My twin room was spacious, but had two foldaway metal beds with thin mattresses and worn linen. There were no headboards, and the wall was stained with dirt and grease from previous guests' hair. There wasn't a cupboard, just a metal rail for hanging clothes, and the electrical outlets looked worn and unsafe. The advertised “Mountain and River view” was a road and fields, with hills and trees nearby that might have hidden a river or stream. The amenities listing was misleading. There were no kitchen facilities in the room. A toaster, microwave, coffee machine and similar items were beside the dining room for breakfast use. Breakfast was a packet of dry bread or toast and one coffee pod for a machine I didn't know how to use. There was nothing to put on the bread, no juice or even water, and nobody around to help. I was told on arrival that the bathroom across the hall would be for my exclusive use, so I left my toiletries there, but other guests used it too. The toiletries provided were just hand soap in a dispenser by the sink. The supposed outdoor furniture and dining area were a couple of plastic chairs by the front door, which is around the back. It seemed to be the smoking area. Overall, it was grotty, and just about a bed. No breakfast, really.
