Hotel Barbato

Outside signage shone straight into our room all night, making it really bright, and the location wasn't very convenient. Expect to use taxis or public transport to get to and from Napoli Central. It wasn't terrible, but this definitely isn't the 4-star hotel advertised online. There was mould in spots in the bathroom, and the many visible patch-up jobs in the room took away any 4-star feel it might have had.

The included breakfast was just a coffee and croissant, and the WiFi was awful. Public transport is unreliable, and it wasn't running the day we arrived, so we ended up walking an unpleasant 5km from the train station. The staff were pleasant but spoke very limited English. The room was clean and the air-conditioning worked well, but the shower had mould and the fridge didn't work very well. You get what you pay for. This is not a 4 star hotel.

The front office staff were friendly and courteous, the room was clean, and the bathroom was decent. Still, this is a 2-star or 2.5 star hotel at best, despite being presented as 4-star when we booked. The room was large for one queen bed but clearly not designed for two. Our kids slept on a sofa that converted to a second bed, placed at the foot of the queen bed with its headboard against the footboard, leaving very little space around it. Sadly, all 7 hotels we stayed in across Switzerland and Italy lacked irons, ironing boards, and coffee makers. They had kettles and instant coffee sachets instead, which felt like an insult to the coffee-drinking tradition of both countries. This is all in the name of climate change lunacy.

It's okay. The shower gets hot and the hotel does have a lift, but the bed and pillows are hard. The room smelled moldy, the safe moved around, and the fridge barely got cold. It's far from the city centre. And you don't want to be near the city.
