La Terrazza a Dante

The location is excellent for sightseeing, and the owner is very helpful if something comes up. But the room and bathroom were poorly cleaned, and there wasn't even a bar of soap when we arrived. Street noise was awful, so we had to keep the windows shut. The couple living there used the whole small fridge, and they were noisy too, banging things around and shouting. It was stiflingly hot, so the air conditioning had to stay on most of the time. When we needed to wash, though, we had to switch it off, or the power and water heater went out. There was no Wi-Fi or breakfast. Could suit adventurous young people with low expectations.

Don't choose this place. I was told by WhatsApp the day before to give an arrival time, which I found unprofessional. I clearly said 11 to 13 because Italian trains can be delayed. The owner was ill and had passed things to Andrea, who then had Mario contact me. At the Dante stop I messaged Mario, and he said he was working until 12 and could only come then. Check-in was supposed to start at 11. We stood at the entrance for 40 minutes before he arrived with the keys. He said a short wait was no big deal because he had work to do. The people near the B&B were also too minded, though that's just their nature, details aside. The building had no elevator. The room looked nice at first, but all we could hear was the neighbors screaming, as if they had megaphones. After making us wait, I asked if he could waive or halve the tourist tax, €10 for two crazy nights, and he said no. The toilet, shown in the photo, was a tiny hole and in bad repair. The front door wouldn't stay shut unless locked with a key. There were ants everywhere, disgusting. The shower ran cold because nobody explained that the water heater above it had to be plugged in. I found that really dangerous, since water could get in there, and we waited almost two hours for hot water. Cleanliness was nonexistent, with someone else's hair in the shower. There were hardly any outlets, one to the right of the bed and one behind a closet by the bedroom door. A waste of money.

You really have to go inside to believe this place. The terrace is beautiful and private, with views of Rena Bianca beach and Corsica across the Strait of Bonifacio, though you can't see it from the road. It's quiet, with soft classical Neapolitan music in the background. The food tastes authentic, and the fresh ingredients bring out the different flavors in the dishes. The pizza is a proper Neapolitan classic too. Service was good. I recommend it.

A quiet night's sleep came from the location on an internal alley, and breakfast was served on the terrace in Piazza Dante. The place works well for seeing the art treasures of ancient Naples. It has two living rooms used as antechambers, a fully equipped kitchen, and a very pleasant terrace. The manager was helpful, and the location was excellent, just four stops from Garibaldi Station on Metro Line 1 and a few steps from Porta Alba, the gateway to the heart of Naples.
