Napoli Sea

The main reason I’m writing this is that housekeeping damaged one of my belongings, and the hotel offered no compensation or discount. When I raised it at the front desk, I was told they couldn’t do anything because they weren’t the boss, and they wouldn’t contact their boss either. If I’d damaged something in the room, I’d have been expected to pay, so being brushed off with an “oops, too bad” was disappointing. If you stay here, put your things away before you leave for the day. There were other problems too. Street noise comes straight into the room, with cars, trucks, and other sounds clearly audible, so a quiet night’s sleep can be hard. The room itself was spacious, which stood out compared with other places we stayed in Italy. The shower pressure was very weak, and we had to run the water for 5-10 minutes before it warmed up. It never got hot, just warm. That was manageable in spring, but I imagine winter showers would be tough. The free WiFi was also spotty and disconnected often. Staff were generally friendly, and I can usually overlook things here and there not working well. This incident was harder to let go.

This place was a brilliant find. The room was huge, in what looks like a grand, historic building, and it was surprisingly quiet until the city started waking up around 6:30am on weekdays. The sea, restaurants, and nightlife are just one street away, with several good bars and places to eat an easy walk from the door. Breakfast was traditional, with different cornetto, coffee, yoghurt, and enough to set you up for the day. It’s an older building, so don’t expect a modern bathroom or similar fittings. That’s part of its charm.

The staff really made this visit worthwhile. They were wonderful, supportive, and went beyond what was expected. The building itself wasn’t up to standard, and although construction was going on while we were there, the room hadn’t been improved. They’d painted over imperfections instead of fixing them. For what we paid, I think we could have gotten more elsewhere.

I loved the old Italian feel, just what I’d hoped for. Even the entrance was something to see. The room was beautiful, the hotel was very clean, and the staff were both friendly and helpful.
