The hotel has a lot of character, and I loved the generous seating areas and the ground-floor bar with drinks and light snacks. Breakfast was delicious, even if the selection was limited. The homemade granola stood out, and it was lovely to try olive oil produced by Rastrello. The small town itself is beautiful. The service, unfortunately, didn’t have the same thoughtful warmth as the design. We appreciated getting confirmation of an upgrade before arrival, but nobody acknowledged our Marriott platinum elite status at check-in. The receptionist assumed we were another Chinese family because we looked East Asian and showed us a smaller, incorrect room, even though our non-Chinese passports clearly showed our names. That unfortunately felt close to micro-racism. We also had to push for late checkout, despite clear written information online that the property participates in the bonvoy program and provides elite benefits. We had to haggle to get a 2 pm checkout. After it was reluctantly granted, we received a long, defensive message that basically told us off for asking. It was deeply distasteful, and since we felt unwelcome, we left before 1 pm. We booked only because we expected those benefits to be recognized. If design hotels can simply say they operate independently and don't follow the same standards, it could hurt both their reputation and their credibility within Marriott.

Waking up to the panoramic lake and countryside views each morning was unforgettable. Rastrello Boutique Hotel in Panicale occupies a thoughtfully restored 14th-century palazzo above Lake Trasimeno, with an intimate, elegant feel and an authentic Italian character. My suite lake-view room brought together rustic Umbrian style and modern boutique comfort. As a Marriott Ambassador Elite member, I appreciated the warm welcome and attentive service throughout my stay. It was a truly outstanding countryside retreat in the heart of Umbria. Bonissimo!

The hotel looks almost new after its recent renovation, and the decor is elegant and very tasteful. It was also remarkably clean. In a beautiful city on the border of Tuscany, about two hours from Rome, we found the service excellent and friendly. The food was average, but I still think the hotel deserves five stars overall.

The medieval town of Panicale felt like an escape from the world, and we loved the setting in the Umbria and Tuscan region. Our family of four, including two teenage daughters, enjoyed leaving social media behind and taking in the countryside. Castiglione del Lago is about a 20-minute drive away, and there are several wineries just 5-10 minutes from the hotel. Nonna's three-course cooking class, the olive oil tasting, and the nightly farm-to-table dinners at the restaurant were highlights. Breakfast and the afternoon snacks and drinks were delicious too. The whole staff deserves five stars, especially Lorenzo and the GM. A lovely place to relax, reset, and get away from everyday stress.

The team made everything easy before we arrived, responding quickly and helping arrange a few activities. We also booked a pickup from the station, which went smoothly and would be handy for anyone not planning to drive. We celebrated my husband’s birthday with a cooking class at the hotel’s farm, organized by the team. It was a real highlight. The town and hotel are beautiful, and the views are stunning. Everyone was so kind and hospitable, especially Lorenzo, who made our stay special. It felt like a fairytale, and I’d give the hotel and staff 10 stars if I could. We can’t wait to return!
