Hotel Excelsior

The rooms and the hotel overall feel a bit dated, and the finishes, fixtures, and fittings could use some attention. It was probably lovely in its day, but needs a little work now. The staff are friendly and do their best to help, and you can leave luggage at reception for collection later if needed, even though arrival and departure times are set. The hotel is a few hundred metres from Pavia railway station. Breakfast is a self-service buffet from 7:30 to 9:30, with a small but very good selection of croissants, ham, cheese, boiled eggs, cereal, cakes, coffee, and a few tea bags.

The staff are kind and very helpful, and the rooms are spacious enough. The hotel has private parking, but it isn’t free, so ask about using it. Otherwise, finding a spot outside may be difficult. The Old City, Pavia cathedral, and university are all within walking distance. Breakfast was okay, though not perfect.

We had a lovely four-day business trip in Pavia, helped by the amiable, helpful team and excellent service. The hotel is conveniently located, and I’d ask for a room facing the square. The garage is a little awkward because you have to ask staff to open it each time you come or go. Thank you!

The rooms are up to date, and the hotel is nice and very close to the train station. The Wi-Fi code has to be renewed every day, which is a hassle. Breakfast wasn’t very good, and some cereal would have been welcome.
