Borgo Dei Conti Resort Relais & Chateaux

Borgo dei Conti is a beautiful, spacious and peaceful estate, with elegant rooms and thoughtful details throughout. It feels designed for relaxing, and the staff were gracious and well intentioned. Our visit in mid to late October, though, gave us the sense that the season was winding down. The service seemed stretched thin, or staff were covering unfamiliar roles. Interactions could feel awkward, as if we’d arrived just as a restaurant was putting its chairs away. To get a drink, someone had to find a bartender elsewhere. At dinner, the chef kindly served us because nobody else was available. Some planned amenities and hosted activities had also disappeared from the schedule. The property was stunning to look at and be in, but that lingering end-of-season feeling affected the stay. We still recommend Borgo dei Conti wholeheartedly, and suggest going during peak season when its full energy, warmth, and service are in place.

After our wedding, my husband and I spent two days at this fairytale hotel. The nature and property completely captivated us. Our room was set up for comfort, and the spa was wonderfully zen. It was just the right way to unwind.

The main dining room felt oddly designed and was a letdown. The refurbishment is high quality, but the finish could use more flair and color. Those are my only real negatives, though. The property makes you feel cosseted, and the staff are warm, knowledgeable, and exceptionally helpful. Marco knows his wines with real enthusiasm, Maggie is an outstanding concierge, and the GM runs things with aplomb. I’d happily recommend it.

The grounds are stunning, though the resort feels a bit isolated. Our spa and garden suite room was beautiful, and the restaurant food was great, but the service and dining options need work. We expected a casual pizza place because that’s what the website and tour described, but there wasn’t any pizza on the menu, and the meal was much fancier and more expensive than we’d anticipated. We emailed the team three weeks ahead to arrange a wine tasting, but they didn’t book anything until the night before. We had tastings at noon and 4pm, yet still had to pay $600 for a car service for the whole day. When we asked about another vineyard to visit, they said it wasn’t possible, so we spent three hours at the first winery while paying for the driver. We enjoyed our stay, but for a resort at this price there’s plenty to improve. I emailed last week with my concerns and never received a reply, which was disappointing. It could suit families or people who just want to stay at the resort.
