A440 in Tuscany

Gigliola was a real highlight for us. We ate at the hotel twice during our three nights, enjoying her simple meals made with fresh local ingredients, the local wine, and those lovely sunsets. She also prepared breakfast. The view and surroundings were incredible, and the shared sitting room was a lovely place to read. The pool was delightful, with plenty of loungers. We stayed in a garden view room. It was nice, though a little tight for us and our luggage. The bed was very comfortable, the bathroom had good space, and the A/C worked well. Communication before we arrived was excellent and much appreciated. The road up is bumpy, but if you're driving in Italy, it's manageable. The walk uphill through the forest to Pienza took us 10-12 minutes at a brisk pace, or 15-20 if you take your time on the steep bit. Walking back from dinner, the fireflies lighting both sides of the hill made for a magical sight. That's obviously seasonal, but we'd never seen anything like it.

We were very happy with our stay while exploring rural Tuscany. The hotel has a picturesque Tuscan view, and our room was clean and air conditioned, which matters to me. The service, food, and atmosphere were excellent. A440 is well placed in Val d’orcia for seeing Tuscany, and you can walk uphill into Pienza. It's a rural location, so the walk is dark and the access roads are dirt, though everything is completely accessible. The rough road may bother some people, but our rented Fiat 500 handled it without a problem.

The pool looked amazing, and there's a special spot to sit and watch the sunset over that incredible view. The place itself is modern, very clean, and quiet, with Pienza close by. Breakfast and dinner were fabulous, and the service was great. We can definitely recommend it.

The staff made us feel more at home here than at the five-star hotel we stayed in the region the day before. The food was great too, and the waiter at the restaurant was such an adorable old man. I miss him! Our room was clean and modern, and the accommodation is very close to Pienza. We needed an early check-in because we had pre-wedding photoshoots in the area. The manager welcomed us warmly and helped us with everything we needed on a busy day. We couldn't be more grateful.
