Bed & breakfast Chloe

Chloe is handy if you’re driving, and the rooms are nice and reasonably priced. But check-in and check-out are at another property nearly 15 minutes away along a dirt road. No one mentioned that important detail when I booked. The room had been cleaned a long time beforehand and was full of dust. Breakfast is served at Decarlo, where the property is nice and the staff friendly, but it makes little sense to travel all that way when you’re staying somewhere else. The B&B should operate independently.

Everything apart from the handy location was a horror. It’s near the sea, Tropea’s center, and supermarkets, but hygiene was zero and I slept in dust. The broken air conditioning made it unbearably hot, and the shutters were broken too. The sheets weren’t changed during our five days, and towels were missing. The balcony could have been comfortable with a drying rack and a seat, but it was dusty and covered in ants. The shower was cramped, with a broken showerhead handle. Water pressure kept fluctuating. We told Cris at reception and were told it was a municipal issue, which wasn’t true. On the last day, we went to the hotel to return our keys and explain all the problems. He quickly brushed us off, as if he already knew what we were going to say. All that kindness was just a facade!

The beds were extremely uncomfortable, and I found dirty towels more than once. I doubt the room was cleaned properly. Breakfast barely existed: yogurt, if you could find a spoon, and packaged croissants. There was a shared fridge, and the place wasn’t equipped at all. The woman at Hotel Umberto, where you check in and out, was very kind, but this isn’t a B&B. We absolutely don’t recommend it. Seven nights cost €940, which felt like a complete scam.

The reception staff were kind, but everything else was a nightmare. The room and bathroom are rundown, the WiFi doesn’t work, and neither does the TV, which looks like it’s from the ’80s. The air conditioning is as loud as an airplane. The price is exorbitant for what you get. One star was the lowest I could give.
