Hotel Apis

For a budget stay, I'd recommend it. The staff are very friendly and there's a nice pool. It's about what you'd expect from a 2 star hotel, or a higher-standard motel. If budget isn't the main concern, I'd stay on the south beach instead.

Housekeeping was excellent, and the front desk staff were very nice. The room was small and short on outlets. Breakfast wasn't anything special, though they did have soy milk.

For 28€/night for a standard double room, it was okay. We slept well: the room was fairly quiet, had blinds to darken it, and the balcony was very big. The staff were polite and the rooms looked clean. The location was decent, with the beach about a 5-minute walk away and bars and shops nearby. There was meant to be a private beach for 10€/day for two deck chairs and an umbrella. Since we came in low season, we just put our towels on the free part of the beach; the free beach is 20 minutes away. The place is old, and it shows. The bathroom is small, its fittings are rusty, and you have to pull a rusty screw to open the tiny window. The toilet is squeezed between the shower and the wall, and the flush didn't work properly. We could feel the mattress springs, and the double bed was two single beds that sometimes slid apart. There was no Wi-Fi in the room. When we asked which network to use, we were told it didn't work there. Asked if it would be fixed soon, the answer was, "I don't think so, it's just not working these days...sorry". We got a similar explanation about the closed pool: "we just closed it down, cause it's rainy and cold these days.." What did "these days" mean, the Corona pandemic or the end of September? The Wi-Fi did work in the lobby, but staff sitting on the terrace and chatting gave us several conflicting network names and passwords and didn't seem very interested in helping. At checkout, we asked for compensation or a discount because the pool and room Wi-Fi were unavailable. The staff then said they'd never had Wi-Fi in the rooms and that the pool regularly closes in September. They said this information was supposedly available and there must have been a problem or false information in our booking. The homepage we booked through did have conflicting details. The property description said, "Rooms are air conditioned and include free Wi-Fi and TV." The room description said, "This air-conditioned room has [...] free Wi-Fi." Under 'facilities', free WiFi was listed again, but farther down it said, "Free! WiFi is available in public areas and is free of charge." We couldn't find any information about the pool. We skipped breakfast for 5€ extra because we were told it was only sweet things. We stayed for 3 nights at the end of September, during the Corona pandemic.

The renovated rooms are very nice, and the staff working around the hotel are helpful and pleasant. Cleanliness wasn't a problem: rooms were cleaned daily, and they changed the full set of towels and even the sheets when asked. The front desk was another matter. They greeted us with a smile, but later refused to speak English or take a major concern seriously. In hospitality, you can't insult guests or refuse to talk to them. If that's how you act, you're in the wrong business. They also failed to take a health and safety issue seriously, one that could harm people. Don't go here if you have allergies or asthma. The same goes if you want to avoid lip herpes, itchy skin or eyes, or a sore throat. I wouldn't consider it suitable for kids for those same reasons. Get breakfast at a nearby caffetteria, bar or bottega instead. It isn't worth the money, even with the excuse that things are this way because of Corona, and you'll get proper coffee there too.
