At Locanda della Cavalleria, history seems to stretch endlessly, and the stay feels like a journey within a journey. Count Giovanni shared Italian history through the story of his family. My suite felt like a little nest, beautifully furnished and comfortable, with the feel of an old residence while still being clean and well cared for. It was where Puccini stayed. I highly recommend the experience.

There’s even a little chapel in the garden, and the property has comfortable apartments as well as the spacious rooms furnished with antiques. Palazzo Augusti Antonelli sits above the valley on a hill, surrounded by greenery, and the welcome in this historic palazzo is warm. The owner keeps you listening with stories from different periods of history. It’s peaceful and relaxing, with plenty of parking, and Senigallia is a 15-minute drive away. A noble little B&B, and worth the detour.

We found ourselves on an unexpected journey within our short holiday this year. “La Locanda della Cavalleria,” near Senigallia in Trecastelli, Brugnetto (AN), is the Augusti Counts’ summer residence. From the moment we arrived, we were wrapped in an atmosphere from another time, full of history, events, and famous figures. The enchanting palazzo holds rare and beautiful things like a precious treasure chest. Count Professor Giovanni Augusti Martines guided us through it with deep knowledge and obvious passion, making this trip into the past especially captivating. A journey, after all, is planned down to the smallest detail, each time with the thrill of a first experience, so it can live up to our hopes. As Tonino Guerra says, “in every departure, there’s also a return.” We’ll be back to keep that wonderful memory alive and enjoy again the warm, family-like hospitality. Thank you.

Last week, over the Ferragosto holiday, my wife and I had the privilege of staying in this palazzo, where history, charm, and beauty come together. It has some challenges, but its uniqueness is hard to measure. We’ll recommend to our friends that they visit Senigallia, have dinner in its splendid, almost metaphysical and perfect piazza, and stay at Count Giovanni Augusti Martines’s home, where he welcomes guests like friends.

It’s a beautiful old villa turned into a B&B, with a church beside it. The owners are kind, though they keep pushing restaurants owned by their friends and speak badly of other places, even some that are better quality. The house has a lovely atmosphere, but there’s 19th-century dust throughout the rooms, and although cleaning costs €35, it seemed like it might never get done. The internet didn’t work and the sheets were worn. It’s really not suitable for families with children because you need a lot of adaptability. On cloudy days the rooms are cold and smell musty. We paid tourist taxes, but afterward realised they never asked for our IDs or checked us in. Breakfast was served at a friendly local café, but it’s closed on Tuesdays and nobody warned us, so we missed breakfast that day. Personally, I’d rather forget the place.
