The room was otherwise acceptable, and the hotel's central location put many major Rome sights within walking distance. But we had a persistent sewage smell that made me nauseous and sick all night. It was subtle the first night, and thankfully we only stayed two nights, but it was there throughout and made it hard to relax, sleep, or even shower. We reported it, but the hotel was fully booked and had no alternative room. They tried bleach, which didn't solve it. The staff were polite, but the odor remained, and no one offered anything complimentary or even condolences. They hadn't even looked at the room by the time we left, so sadly the next guest would have to deal with it. For the price, this was a huge disappointment and affected our first trip to Rome. I hope they address the plumbing or ventilation problem.

We left straight away. Nobody should be spoken to in such a dismissive, confrontational way over a simple question. I travel a lot and have never had service this poor. As a professional myself, I'd never treat people as we were treated. The whole thing was deeply disappointing and completely unnecessary. My husband and I stopped at this café during our Rome holiday around 3 p.m. on 19/04/2026, hoping to sit down for a drink. He sat outside while I went in to ask politely about the toilet. The bartender abruptly said “no no no” in an aggressive, dismissive tone when I asked if it was upstairs. Thinking she hadn't heard, I asked again and got more hostility. She asked whether we were staying at the hotel. I said no, but that we'd just sat outside and were about to order drinks. She raised her voice and kept repeating “no, no, no.” I asked if that meant we couldn't sit and order. She said we could, but only after ordering could I use the toilet. That could have been explained politely from the beginning. I was six months pregnant, which was obvious. That doesn't change the story or how people should be treated, though during this trip I've experienced the complete opposite elsewhere. Hospitality has a basic standard of courtesy, and this fell far below it.

We were very happy with our stay. The hotel facilities were great, with free use of the gym, sauna, and jacuzzi, and the staff were friendly. The location was ideal, about a five-minute walk from the Trevi Fountain area and 15-20 minutes on foot from the Colosseum area. Our room was spacious, the bed very comfortable, and both the room and bathroom were clean. The shower was lovely too.

The transfer we arranged through the hotel caused trouble on departure. Reception had told us card payment would be accepted, but once we were in the taxi, the driver said it wasn't possible. That left us in an awkward spot. We also waited 45 minutes for our room after returning at the stated 2 p.m. check-in time. We had arrived earlier and been asked to come back at 2, which was understandable, but it still wasn't ready then. The room was much smaller than advertised with very little storage, and we could clearly hear other guests and outside noise. The bed was extremely uncomfortable, as if some slats were broken. The shower head was covered in limescale and sprayed water everywhere. A crack in the shower screen meant the bathroom flooded after each use, and the tap was so loose we had to handle it carefully to avoid pulling it off. Overall it didn't live up to a four-star rating. Better maintenance, clearer communication, and more accurate room descriptions would improve the stay.

Bugs and ants in the bed, on the walls, and across the floor made it impossible to rest. I have video documenting it. There was also a strong unpleasant smell through much of the hotel, and the towels smelled very bad. The front desk was sometimes rude and gave misleading information more than once. Paolo at the front desk presented himself as the manager and was particularly unprofessional and discourteous. He made commitments that weren't kept. After we reported the situation, he promised a better room and one complimentary night, but when we returned, neither arrangement had been made. When I asked to speak to the hotel manager, I was told nobody was available, despite Paolo having identified himself as one. If this guy works at any hotel in the USA should be fired right away on the spot. This did not meet the standard of a four-star hotel, and it seemed the rating was mainly used to justify extra tourist taxes. It was a very disappointing stay, and I wouldn't recommend the hotel.
