The apartment is spacious and updated, with marble floors, a renovated bathroom, memory foam mattress and pillows, and a washing machine. It's on a quiet street close to Piazza del Popolo, roughly halfway between the Vatican and Borghese Gallery. There's a fantastic restaurant right outside. The host kept in touch regularly on Whatsapp, and left a helpful binder with house instructions and local restaurant tips. The modern decor wasn't cozy or welcoming to me, though that's a matter of taste. The couches badly need replacing if you want to lounge comfortably. The large one folds out into a bed, and its cushions kept sliding out from under us. The kitchen was clean, but some of the drawers were a bit messy.

Michelle, our friendly host, spent half an hour going through three different maps and sharing local tips when we arrived. We'd already made a sightseeing list, but her advice was perfect. Piazza del Popolo is around the corner, and all the main sights are close. We walked everywhere, though you can also rent bikes, steps or take a cab or bus. We stayed five days and left our luggage in the apartment on the last day since our return trip was in the evening. We also arrived early and could leave our bags during check-in, so there was no need for lockers. The layout worked well: three double beds, two rooms at the back with the bathroom and toilet between them, and another room at the front. Between that front room and the sleeping rooms were a spacious kitchen and a large table with six chairs and a couch. A perfect base for exploring Rome.
