Candia Rooms

We booked online before traveling to Rome, but the room we got looked nothing like the website photos. It was cramped, with old, tatty furniture, and the bathroom was dirty. One traveler had to use a camp bed. There was no TV or kettle, even though both were listed, and the biggest disappointment was that there was no air conditioning. We raised this with the owner and asked for a refund. She said she could move us to “the right room” the next day because another guest was using it. We spent 30 minutes in Candia, then decided to leave and try to find somewhere else. It was already midnight after a full day of travel when we finally booked a much better hotel, with working AC, a TV, and a kettle, for a much better price. We contacted our bank agencies and booking.com about the issue. We won’t let this go until we get a full refund. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this place.

We really enjoyed our stay here. Every morning, breakfast was brought to the room and later taken away. It was excellent. The room was spacious for the two of us, with a TV, outlets, towels, bathrobes, and bed linen changed as they cleaned each day. The Wi-Fi worked perfectly. There wasn’t a bathroom with a toilet in our room, but the facilities were on our floor and it wasn’t a problem. The bathroom had toilet paper, hand soap, shampoo, and body soap, and we could ask for more when things ran out. The shower faucet was a little broken. It still worked, but water went in different directions. Sound insulation wasn’t great either, though that’s fine if you’re not fussy. The hotel is small and pleasant, in central Rome next to the Vatican. The staff were very friendly and attentive, explained everything, showed us around, and answered all our questions. Thanks for the hospitality!

Never, ever go here. Even if you call ahead to book a room, they’re liars and thieves, so would you really want to sleep here? Book online and pay in advance, and you might end up sleeping on a curb. Then they’ll refuse to refund you. Unethical, selfish people. I really don’t recommend them.

We paid for the room a month in advance, but when we arrived, a very unfriendly and rude staff member said there was no reservation and they were fully booked. She was extremely rude, then left the building. She said she would email me proof that she’d contacted all the travel agencies the night before, but she never came back down or sent anything. Avoid this place. If you want a worry-free trip, don’t book here or even look at it, or you may find yourself with nowhere to stay.
