Casa per ferie S. Maria alle Fornaci

We spent our honeymoon here and found it a great base for a visit to Rome. The Vatican is just steps away, though the hotel is tucked back a little from the tourists. It’s in an old convent building, now used entirely as a hotel. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The nearest train station is about a 3-minute walk, while the metro takes around 20 minutes on foot. I’d recommend it to anyone after a simple place to stay.

The staff were friendly, and there’s a supermarket and train station close by. The place itself is nice, but a few things kept it from getting five stars: Wi-Fi was really weak in room 414, the elevator broke during our stay, and there was no coffee in the room. I also wish breakfast had sausages and eggs.

Breakfast is part of the price, and the hotel has a concierge available around the clock. You can also have lunch or dinner there, but you need to book ahead. It’s only a four-minute walk from St. Peter’s Basilica Square, which makes it a good place for groups of pilgrims to rest. The rooms are a little small, though practical and comfortable, and I thought it was good value.

The location made our visit easy, just a short walk from St. Peter Square, and having private parking was a big plus. Reception is staffed 24 hours by lovely people. Alberto was especially kind and courteous, and made us feel at home; he also helped with our needs so well that we booked an extra night. Check-in was smooth and informative, and the room was spacious and clean. The team’s wonderful service made the experience amazing. I look forward to staying here whenever I visit Vatican City.
