Condotti Inn

After a few days of sightseeing, this was a comfortable, spotless place to come back to. The rooms and lobby are well kept and the hotel seems very well managed. It's tucked down a quiet alley in central Rome, behind a discreet entrance that opens onto a lovely courtyard, with reception up on the first floor. The staff were warm and friendly, which gave the place a homey feel. A cute little hidden gem.

We paid about a third as much here as we had the night before at Forum Hotel, yet my girlfriend and I both liked the room at Condotti Inn much more. There was free breakfast, too. It's an affordable, pleasant place with friendly, personable staff who speak English and Italian. The location is decent, and after checking out we went to the Vatican museums. They let us leave our bags there for several hours.

The reception was small, but the gentleman there was kind and gave us useful tips. We could walk to nearly all the main sights from this central hotel, with the Colosseum being the one exception. The rooms are small, though that's typical for a big city, and I've paid a lot more for tiny rooms in Paris. We enjoyed Rome and found this a great place to crash at the end of the day. Breakfast was straightforward but good quality: bread, cold cuts, cheese and very good coffee. Bread in Europe is generally much better, too. I'd recommend it for a future Rome trip.

Great value for the rate, with breakfast included. There was meat, cheese, sweet food and coffee, and the staff were fairly nice and tried to make us comfortable. The location is a real bargain too, about 15 minutes from the Vatican, 20 from the monument, and 30 from Trastevere and the Colosseum. One thing to know: depending on the room, a family may be living upstairs. It's a normal Roman building, so be ready for some noise if that bothers you.
