Domus Iuliae Guest House

A friendly, helpful hostess made us feel very welcome. The rooms are compact, but practical and spotless. The location puts you close to everything, yet the property itself feels like a quiet oasis. I’d definitely recommend this B&B.

I’m writing this because of how the owner treated my partner. Stephano's attitude was so unpleasant and demeaning that she ended up in tears and wanted to go straight back to the US. The room had problems, and he neither fixed them nor apologized. We left a day early because we felt unsafe and uncomfortable, then paid another 50 Euros for a “lost key” that we had never been given, just to get away from him. I’ve never posted such a harsh review before, but this experience left me no choice. We asked to leave a day early and get a refund so we could find somewhere that suited us better. After my partner told Stephano the room wasn’t as advertised and had several maintenance issues, he came in furious and told us to leave, accusing us of making excuses because we wanted to check out early. He also called my partner racist. When she said we’d leave immediately, he said he was glad we were going and didn’t need guests like us because he had plenty of good reviews. He didn’t even try to sort out the room or move us. The bathroom was unbelievably cramped, even smaller than one on a cruise ship, and anyone around 5'10 or taller would have a hard time showering. Water escaped from the shower into the rest of the bathroom, which smelled damp. The window was broken and looked onto another building inside the complex. The bathroom door squeaked loudly enough to wake someone at night. The room itself was small, like many central stays in big cities. I’d advise international travelers hoping to enjoy Italy to avoid this place if they can. Domus Luliae was nothing like the listing and felt like a waste of money. For anyone considering it for the price or location, it wasn’t worth it. Italians are wonderful hosts who often go out of their way for guests, and this was the opposite.

We were leaving early, so I mentioned the day before that I wouldn’t have breakfast. They still put together a breakfast basket for me, which was amazing. The hostess was wonderful, everything was really clean, and breakfast had a good range. It’s close to everything and they were helpful in every way. I’d absolutely stay here again when I’m in Rome. Truly lovely people.

Disgusting 🤢🤮 The room was filthy, with marks on the walls and floor, and the “fresh” fruit had gone bad. It had a window, but it was tucked away and let in no light. The parking cost more than twice what the listing said. When we tried to discuss changing the booking and the advertised parking price with the host, he got aggressive and was very uncomfortable to talk to. He told us to contact booking.com, which we did. While we waited for a reply, he insisted we pay immediately instead of letting us speak to them first, as he’d suggested. When we said we’d pay once we’d talked to booking.com, he threatened to report us to the police and even made false accusations that we had assaulted his employee. A horrible experience I wouldn’t want anyone else to have. What an awful person.
