Domus Porta Angelica

We had to arrive after midnight, and the host kindly waited up and opened the doors for us. The room was spacious, nice, tidy, and newly decorated. We stayed in room 5 and could see the dome of St Peters basilica from there. The place is right on the Vatican border wall, just a two-minute walk from St Peters basilica. Breakfast is served at the cafeteria outside, where you can choose a croissant filled with chocolate, cream or custard, or have one plain. The host was very helpful, and the location is perfect if you’re happy to walk to lots of famous sights.

The location is great, and the air conditioning works well. But the room has a few problems. The shower drain is nearly blocked, so water builds up quickly, which feels pretty gross. The Wi-Fi is painfully slow, and the kitchen barely has any equipment, so making breakfast yourself isn't really possible. The breakfast vouchers are for a poor restaurant outside, where you can get coffee and toast. For a basic room, €440 for three nights is a lot. Check-in also feels impersonal, since everything is handled by WhatsApp or phone and there's no reception desk.

The rooms were clean and had everything we needed, and the host was very kind and helpful. We had a great stay at Domus Porta Angelica. It's close to the Vatican, Saint Angelo, Piaza del Popolo and lots of other places, with plenty of restaurants and shops nearby. Breakfast comes as a voucher for one of three meals at the restaurant below the hotel. It may not sound like much, but the food is good and the portions are generous. Thanks, Tommy!

Tommy was easy to reach by phone throughout our stay, and the service was polite. The bed was comfortable and the hotel is good value for money, right in the heart of Vatican. Really enjoyed it. Highly recommend!
