Hotel Gabriella

Termini metro and train are nearby, which is the best thing about this hotel. We found the rooms small and disappointing, and the sheets had a strange smell, maybe from a product they use. Our AC didn’t work. After we asked for help, the receptionist spent about an hour going back and forth and trying to reset it, but didn’t seem to know what to do. They moved us to an even smaller room where there was barely room to open our luggage. When we asked for a bigger one, they had no other option and said this renovated room was supposed to cost more. At least the AC worked there. The city tax was 6€ per person per night, 48€ for two people over four nights. They wanted cash, which felt fishy, or five separate card payments of 10-10-10-10-8€, which felt even fishier. On our last night, the power went out around 4 am. For hours, we had a flashlight-like emergency light and a high-pitched alarm in the room, so we couldn’t sleep. There didn’t seem to be any staff around to sort it out. I think everyone leaves at night, or sleeps very deeply.

The room was clean, but street noise kept us from getting a good night’s sleep, even with the window closed. The beds are very narrow. There are lots of steps, and while there is a lift, it takes ages to arrive. The kettle came with no milk, no sugar, just sweetener, and two coffee sachets for two people staying two nights. Nothing was replenished the next day.

I had a great time at the hotel. The rooms were clean and cosy, and the staff were always friendly, just what you want for a holiday in Rome. I’d like to apologise for the unprofessional way I expressed myself in my last review. My accusations weren’t justified, and I hope the hotel owners can forgive my inexperience with some things because I’m still young. I hope you’ll accept my apology.

The staff were very nice and friendly throughout, and when our room key card suddenly stopped working while we were out for the day, they sorted it quickly. The hotel is really close to the Main Train station, which is great. The room looked nothing like the pictures, though. It was old and dated, with an old house smell, and the bathroom was okay but very small.
