Hotel Caracciolo

The reception was amazing. The woman there went through all the rules and gave us a Rome map marked with nearby public transport for the main attractions, plus food options around the hotel. It was the most detailed information I've received at any hotel anywhere. Even five-star check-ins have felt superficial and transactional by comparison. This two-star hotel outdid every five-star place I've stayed in that regard. The location is quite convenient. The streets outside didn't feel as safe at night, but we were out until 11 p.m. and it was fine. The gate only opens with your own code, so we felt safe inside.

The safe in our room didn't work because its battery compartment was broken, and nobody fixed it, so that cost the hotel a star. The hotel itself was very nice, with super friendly and helpful staff. We'd consider staying here again on our next trip to Rome.

The rooms are small and cozy, which seems normal for Rome, and ours was clean with working air conditioning. It's a nice place for a few nights, at a good location close to the Colosseum and other attractions. People mention the neighborhood being dangerous, but I never felt in harm's way. It just seemed like some of Rome's other neighborhoods. I'd recommend staying here. You get what you pay for, and the price is hard to beat.

We were meant to stay two nights, but after we couldn't sleep on the first one, we complained to management and decided to leave. The manager refused to speak to us and left the receptionist to deal with it. They also wouldn't refund the second night, so we had to urgently find another hotel and pay again. It left us exhausted and ruined our trip to Roma. You can find somewhere much better for less, so avoid this place. The hotel felt old, dirty, and awful, and we didn't feel safe in the area. There was barely any water pressure, and the water wasn't hot. The electricity went out for the whole floor in the middle of the night, leaving us without lights or AC all night, while no employee was in the building before 8 a.m. When we and other guests complained, the receptionist said there was an emergency number somewhere and it was our fault for not calling. There was a lot of noise in the room, and we could hear the escalator going up and down. The hotel is a joke. Our room was terrible and filthy. The power outage, the staff response, and the refusal to refund made for a terrible experience.
