Hotel De Rome

Very awful. The Wi-Fi was there but didn’t work, and the hotel wasn’t very clean. The bed cover was basically a cotton layer with two sheets, one above and one below. You could hear all the plumbing and toilet flushes throughout the night. The curtains had white stains, hopefully bleach, and there were no bath products. Reception and the hotel are in separate buildings, and the hotel sign is hard to see. There’s no breakfast. For a late check-in, nobody is there, so you have to call the “office” for directions and key information.

There were yellow stains on the ceiling above the bed from old leaks, water pouring through the vent over the toilet, and a shower leak as well. Someone had tried to hide the vent problem by stuffing tissue into it. We only got one towel each, even though we showered morning and night, and there was no iron or breakfast. The lights didn’t work, the room was tiny, and we slept terribly. The bathroom door had punch marks, the bedding was dirty, and the blanket in the cupboard looked like it had pizza on it. The safe kept locking up and the phone didn’t work. If there’d been a fire, we couldn’t have called for help, since the hotel desk was around the corner in another building. We had to keep complaining about things being broken or dirty, and it was extremely frustrating. We were never moved or upgraded, so thanks for being so useless. My first trip to Rome was ruined. I’ll never return. Four days and money wasted. This hotel is a vile hostel prison.

The rooms were quiet, nicely furnished, and the hotel felt fancy. Its location is ideal if you want to explore the city on foot and see its beautiful spots.

There’s no breakfast, but lots of good restaurants nearby. Many of Rome’s monuments are within walking distance. The rooms are OK.
