For 65 euro, our double room was a tremendous bargain. It wasn’t very big, but it worked for us. The room itself was clean, with cabinets and complimentary coffee and tea. The restroom wasn’t perfectly clean, though it wasn’t bad either. Reception was okay, and the location was ideal, with restaurants and convenience stores nearby. The train and bus stations were only a few steps away. I hadn’t read reviews before booking, but it worked out for us.

The neighborhood felt safe enough, and we found plenty of good, less touristy ristorante’s, bars, pizza places, and other spots within walking distance. We ate at nearly all of them and thought they were pretty good. There are also many sights nearby. We walked to Villa Borghese and back without trouble. Taxis were easy enough to find, either by flagging one down or using the app, though the fare starts when a driver accepts the ride. We spent most of our 10 days in Roma at Hotel Domus Mea after a bad start. Our B&B host had lied and let us down, and losing €700 on that booking got the trip off to a rough start. Another hotel could only take us for two nights, so we moved to Domus Mea for the rest. Only the economy room was available. It was small but did the job, with a balcony, a decent-sized shower, and a comfortable bed. The water ran out or seemed to be in short supply a couple of times, so we had to wait before showering. The housekeeper kept things tidy and made sure we had instant coffee. Our room’s walls were thin. We could hear neighbors slamming closet and room doors, though things got quiet at night once everyone had finished moving around. There were free movie streaming services on the TV and a small fridge. The lobby had a little cafe and barista area with espresso machines, but it seemed not to have reopened after Covid restrictions were lifted. We had Aida at the front desk every time, and she was friendly and helpful. We never saw the boys mentioned in some reviews. We needed an iron one day, but another guest had taken it and not returned it, so we had to find somewhere to press our shirts. There are several laundry services nearby. One was much better than the others: Lavanderia Roma • Via Montebello. We couldn’t open the room safe with the key, and it wasn’t bolted down, so a determined thief could have carried it off and opened it elsewhere. The elevator fits two people and has a 250kg limit. If you have a couple of people and several large check-in bags, you’ll need a few trips. The hotel is on the 5th and 6th floors of an apartment building. They have larger rooms, so I’d check their rates and availability first. It was a mostly decent stay. If you expect 5-star accommodation in a three-star location, you’ll never be satisfied. And as anywhere in the EU, walking around at night with a Rolex and luxury bags makes you an easy target, so I wouldn’t recommend doing that here either.

Good for a budget stay. The rooms and washroom were quite small, and service was satisfactory. It’s a little way from the city center, but Metro and buses are convenient, with plenty of budget-friendly restaurants nearby. Recommended if you’re looking to keep costs down.

The train station is nearby, which is about the only upside. The rooms are tiny, and the water is lukewarm rather than properly hot, making a decent shower almost impossible. The elevator wasn’t working, so we had to haul our luggage up to the 5th floor. It felt more like a motel than a hotel, and I don’t expect I’ll return.

We had a horrible experience. When we arrived and rang the bell, the receptionist was rude. Once she let us in, we found the lift wasn’t working, so we had to climb five floors with all our luggage. We had an elderly person with us and asked the receptionist to help with the bags, but she refused, saying she was alone and had a medical condition that wasn’t visible. We couldn’t find another hotel, so we went up anyway. The first thing we noticed was the very low water pressure. We weren’t the only ones with that problem. I wouldn’t recommend Hotel Domus Mae Rome.
