Hotel Golden

We had a very clean room, and the air conditioning was wonderfully cold, just how we like it. The bed was very firm and the linens weren't great, but we still found it comfortable enough to nearly sleep through a whole day. One thing that bothered us was that staff would touch and move belongings left out during daily cleaning. The hotel felt secure. You have to be buzzed through two doors, and the desk family learned our faces almost right away. We liked leaving our key at reception while we explored, so we didn't have to worry about losing it. There’s a 9 pm curfew. We nearly missed it once, but could have messaged them on WhatsApp to get in. The neighborhood was nice, though some attractions and busier areas are a hike away. Getting to Termini was an easy 20-minute walk in a relatively secure area, even with our luggage. We appreciated being able to store our bags until check-in, though they’re left waiting in the lobby, so bring luggage locks. We also booked a limo from the airport through the hotel. At 70 euro it was pricey, but worth it for our first trip to Rome. The driver pointed out landmarks we might otherwise have missed, which helped while we were still getting our bearings. We stayed three nights and enjoyed our time at Hotel Golden. Thanks for answering all my questions and emails before the stay. We’d come back to Rome and stay here again.

The room was a little small for two, but comfortable enough, and we were glad the bathroom was fairly spacious. The people working there were very sweet and helpful, with recommendations for nearby places to visit. Having to leave our keys with them whenever we went out felt a bit unusual at first, but our room was kept safe. We stayed in 2025, and the location was hard to beat: easy to get around from and a great base for the places we wanted to see. On quieter days, Via Veneto and the inner streets have lovely restaurants.

The owners were very friendly and helped us with nearby restaurant suggestions, made reservations for us, and called a taxi when we left. We walked everywhere, including to the train station, Colosseum and Jewish Ghetto. Our longest walk to a sight was about 30 minutes, and the Gallery Borghese in Villa Borghese park was under 10 minutes away. We chose Hotel Golden based on reviews, and it matched what we expected. Cleanliness and location mattered most to me, and we got both. Our superior room was a good size, with a trundle bed and a king-size bed made from two twin beds. There was enough closet space, and we used the unused trundle bed for our suitcases. The bathroom was large, though the shower was small and had no grab bars, so keep that in mind if you need them. The mattress was very firm. The safe was broken. The owner said it was like being with family and there was no need to worry about theft; they have cameras everywhere, so I suppose she has a point. We still locked our wallets in our suitcases. There’s no breakfast, but there is a kettle. We bought two ceramic mugs on our first day and picked up tea and Nestle cappuccino at a nearby Tigre grocery store. The room fridge let us keep drinks and breakfast food cold. For the price, location and cleanliness, I recommend Hotel Golden.

The family who run the hotel were really friendly and accommodating, and I felt safe walking back alone in the evening in this nice neighborhood. I had a basic but clean single room with good air conditioning. Sleep was okay and the bed was somewhat comfortable. Since the room was near reception, there was some noise, but my earplugs helped and it wasn't a big problem.
