Hotel Indipendenza

The rooftop terrace for guests was a real treat, and the location is excellent, very close to the train station. We’d read that the area might be unsafe, but didn’t notice any problems. The staff were kind and polite, and the bathroom was well kept and very clean. The room was clean too, and having air conditioning was a big plus. It’s a small hotel in a historic building, with a charming elevator that’s a hundred years old. The rooms are quite small, and you can hear things going on in the hallway. The Wi-Fi was weak and could use improvement, and it would be helpful to have a fridge in the room. Thanks for a pleasant stay.

The worst part for me was the AC, which wouldn’t cool the room, so I was sweating all night in the middle of July during a major heat wave. The room was like a shoebox, especially for a family of four, and looked old and dirty, like stepping into the 90s. The fridge is shared with everyone in the hotel. The sink was clogged, and we had to poke it with a pen to get it working. Wi-Fi kept dropping, lagged badly, and had a very weak signal. The hotel is on the fifth floor, and the very old-fashioned elevator wasn’t working when we arrived with all our luggage, so we had to haul everything up the stairs. That was a bad start. There were plenty of problems, but those were the main ones. I know you get what you pay for, but in my opinion it just wasn’t worth the price.

For the three of us, the room was so packed with three single beds that once we put our suitcases between them, there was no room left to move around. The bathroom sink was tiny, almost like a child’s toy. One bed didn’t have enough blankets, and I woke up cold several times. We couldn’t keep the heater on for long because it was too noisy and made the air too dry. The manager was very kind, but that was about the only highlight. The bathroom and room were extremely compact. The elevator was very old-fashioned, like something in a movie, and it was fun and felt like time traveling. Still, the stay wasn’t worth what I paid. I wouldn’t have complained if it had cost less. My family stayed in a room that felt like a palace in Firenze for almost the same price per night.

For tourism and somewhere to sleep, it’s perfect. The guys were really, really nice too.
