Hotel Principe Torlonia

We upgraded to a larger room and were glad we did. It was lovely, had a nice view from the window, and the shower was spacious enough. The staff were polite, kind, and always ready to help, and breakfast was great. There was plenty to choose from, including bacon, sausage, eggs, croissants, yoghurt, pies, toast, and a good range of teas, coffees, and juices. Bologna station on metro line B is only a short walk away and was easy to use. We had a lovely long weekend and would definitely stay here again.

The room was in the basement because I chose the cheaper option, but it was still really nice. Staff were friendly, and breakfast was great, especially the freshly made cappuccinos 😋. It's a beautiful little boutique hotel, and the blue B metro line is about a 10-minute walk away.

The staff were the best part. Both receptionists I met were kind and helpful, and breakfast was fresh and enjoyable, with very warm coffee. The bed was fairly comfortable and seemed clean, and the room size was fine. Still, the room didn't feel like four-star quality for the price. It was in a separate building at the back of the garden, partly below ground. The air conditioning was set to 23°C but the room felt much colder. I found the electric lock confusing because there was no sound or visual signal to show from outside whether it had locked. The toilet leaked a little, and it took 6-8 minutes for the shower water to warm up, which wastes water. If you like an ice-cold shower, though, go for it. I'd give it five stars if the room quality matched the staff and breakfast, but the price didn't meet my expectations, so three stars.

The garden and outside of the hotel are lovely, and the street is quiet. It felt safe walking to the metro or bus. For Rome, the price was much lower than other places nearby, and the room was good value for the location, so I'd give it four stars. We were in the basement, which wasn't great, though we could open the window and left it open during the day. The shower drain still clogs if you spend too long in there, a problem people had reported years ago. The toilet cistern was broken, so I could hear water trickling, but closing the bathroom door blocked the sound. Breakfast is fine if you like sweet Italian options. If you want continental food, get there before 07:45, and be prepared to skip the eggs, which were sometimes cold and runny.
