Seven police officers, with guns, were in the hostel and in our room when we came back a couple of days after checking in. They said the building wasn't supposed to have people staying there, that the hostel was operating illegally, and that we were in danger. We had to pack and leave right away. The police didn't tell us every detail, I believe they couldn't, but it sounded bad. We also had to file an official police report explaining how we'd booked the hostel and found the location. We were told to meet at a restaurant to check in. At first we thought it was closed, but it was a seven minute walk away and not where the booking listing said. The people there were rude, demanding, and short with us. They overcharged us, wouldn't let us pay by card, gave us no receipt, and had lied about the location and price. They also said there was air conditioning and a fan, but that wasn't true either. If you're reading this and think you may need to leave, leave. I hope HostelWorld, where I filed a report, and the Italian police shut the hostel down. If they haven't, I'd recommend finding somewhere else. This was dangerous. My friend and I were kicked out by the police, who said the host had housed us illegally and put us in danger. If I could give it zero stars, I would.
