Hotel Latinum

There's a terrace up top where you can sit and enjoy life. The hotel is lovely, and the staff's incredible friendliness already has us missing them. We loved our stay and will come back when we're in Rome.

The receptionists were kind, welcoming, and very helpful. The hotel sits between the eastern and western tourist attractions. Breakfast didn't offer many food choices, though that's understandable for a small hotel.

Friendly staff and good transport connections were about the only positives for us, along with the central location. The noise was far beyond what I expected, with constant sirens and horns, plus drilling and a harsh grinding or soldering smell from what looked like a building site next door, apparently another hotel being built. The heating stopped working on our second day. My husband told the staff several times, but it wasn't fixed. The television also broke that day and stayed that way. When we opened the minibar, bottles of wine fell out and smashed. We were charged for them even though we cleaned up the glass, which should have made it clear we hadn't drunk them. Accidents happen, but that charge wasn't fair. The "bar" is just a section of reception, and the breakfast area is a partition of reception with a few tables. Breakfast suited me because I don't eat much in the morning, but probably wouldn't suit most people. The coffee from reception was good. What really upset us was the response to my husband's negative Google review. Someone tagged as the hotel owner berated him and ended by saying they had no record of our stay, basically calling him a liar. Perhaps they couldn't find us because we booked through a travel agency, which we've now emailed with the trip details. I'd expect a hotel to account for that and address the problems instead of accusing guests online.

The staff were extremely friendly and went out of their way to help us. The hotel's location was decent, with good transport options for getting around. Cleaning service was good, and we always came back to a fresh room. Our room had the basics and was sufficient, though the bed was a little uncomfortable without being a major problem. Breakfast was included but very average and basic. I'd like to see warmer food and more choices, and the shower doors need attention because they weren't working properly.
