The main pluses were the location and the staff. I stayed eight days during the IBA conference because it was close to a friend’s hotel. It’s convenient for the Spanish Steps, public transport and tour buses, with nice restaurants and 4+ star hotels nearby. The area felt safe. A street-facing room gets fresh air and a view that help make up for the traffic noise. There’s no big sign for the hotel, and the rooms have safes. Staff spoke English well and were willing to stay a little later when our flight was delayed. Breakfast included ham, salami, boiled eggs, pastries, cereal, juices and hot drinks. Even when I got up late, I could still enjoy it. The room condition didn’t match the photos. It needed painting, some lights needed repair, and my shower head was broken while the shower leaked. The staff must have known before I checked in. The locks were temperamental and took several seconds to secure. The walls were very thin: we could clearly hear a couple having sex on the floor below, as well as people eating breakfast in the next room. Keep in mind this is a typical old European building, modernized along with the two floors used by the hotel. The old-fashioned elevator is small and narrow. Otherwise, it’s four or five flights of stairs. The price was fair for the season and conference, but I’d have expected to pay less at another time.
