Max House Bed & Breakfast

The owner was easy to reach and went out of her way to help with requests, including storing our luggage. The rooms, kitchen, and shared bathroom were always clean, and each morning there were sweet snacks, yogurt, and drinks to help yourself to. It’s a few rooms in an apartment, and the interior gives the place a cozy, almost staying-at-a-friend’s feel. Roma Termini is nearby, around 5 minutes by metro or 20 minutes to the Colosseum and center by bike. Max House is a good value for travelers after a cozy, central stay. Absolutely recommendable.

A handy place to stay in Rome, close to Termini. The host was friendly and helpful, and they even put out free breakfast: sweet cakes, bread, tea, and coffee.

Alessia was a lovely host and sent clear check-in information. Roma Termini is an easy walk away, and public transport is close by. I’d recommend the place for solo travelers.

Alessia made the stay much easier. She sent clear arrival instructions, remotely opened the two coded entrance doors and the hotel door, and replied quickly whenever I messaged her on WhatsApp. At €56 a night, including €5 tax, and in such a central spot, I came away positive about Max House Hotel despite the sleep issues. The neighborhood has the rough feel you often get around stations, with beggars, but I never felt unsafe, even at night. Bus 71 stops right outside for central Rome, and Termini is about a 20-minute walk. The bigger problem was noise: a bar opposite my bedroom kept its outdoor area loud until 2 am, and the old building has poor insulation. Other guests, sometimes clearly drunk, came back around 3 am and talked loudly in the hall or kitchen for half an hour. Earplugs were almost essential, so if you need uninterrupted sleep, you may want to stay elsewhere. My room, number 2, was the only one with its own bathroom, so I didn’t have to cross the hall in my underwear at night. The bed was very comfortable, though the room was small and worn, with repairs and paint needed. The shower was hard to regulate, swinging between hot and cold, and water pressure came and went.
