Nicolas Inn

The location is superb, and the guest house is small and nice, with fluffy towels and a comfortable bed. The air conditioning didn’t work, but it wasn’t too much of an issue. We arrived at 11 pm even though check-in closed at 9 pm, and the owner was incredibly accommodating and waited for us.

The location is the main draw, and it’s a cute little guest house. Check-in was a hassle: we rang the buzzer a few times with no response, so we had to call. The bed was very uncomfortable, but the guy running the place was pleasant.

The neighborhood was a highlight for us. Just behind the building there’s a great area for trying authentic food and getting a feel for a residential part of Rome, and the Colosseum and Forum are very close too. We were glad the room had air conditioning with temperatures in the high 90s to 100F. The inn feels homey, the owner is pleasant, and our room was cleaned every day. There’s a nice courtyard to cool off in, plus Rome and Italy guidebooks you can borrow from the common area. Across the street, the minimart had breakfast basics like yogurt, fresh-cut fruit, packaged meats, and biscuits.

I was only there for one night in August '24, but the staff were great and I felt safe in the area. The room was older but clean, and the bed was fine for a night or two. It’s well placed for a bunch of sights and restaurants. I’d stay here again when I’m in Rome.
