Relais Vatican Secret

The reception was often empty, and on my last day I had nowhere to leave my luggage after checkout until my flight. Apart from that, the hotel was clean and comfortable, with very nice employees. The location is good, close to some major attractions, and there’s a market and a few good restaurants nearby. I’d warmly recommend staying here.

Three days before my trip, the property managers told me they had plumbing trouble in two rooms and couldn’t host me on my check-in date. They apologized and offered either free cancellation for a full refund or the option of contacting Booking to be moved to another nearby property without paying extra. They wished me a good trip. They’d confirmed my reservation a month earlier, so this was very irresponsible and meant my trip to Rome didn’t go as planned. I wanted to leave a review on Booking, but couldn’t, since you can only review after checking out.

We booked at Vatican Inn, but when we arrived, we were moved to Relais Vatican because they said there was a problem. It was nearby, so the change itself wasn’t an issue. The room was nice and clean, but we stayed in February, two weeks ago, and it was freezing. The heater didn’t work properly and the window wouldn’t close well. Management was the worst I’ve ever dealt with, even though I’ve travelled a lot. I called about 15 times over two days asking for the AC remote so we could heat the room that way. They said the AC was only for summer and couldn’t be used in winter, even though it had an inverter and could heat the room. We had to call Booking, and only after that did someone bring the remote. We stayed three nights and froze for two of them. It’s sad because the location is quite nice.

The location is good, but the service was pretty poor. They never changed our towels during the three days we were there. The room felt more like an Airbnb than a hotel room.
